Willow Burn Hospice is an oasis, right in the heart of the countryside; a small, hospice and community hub, which was founded over thirty years ago by two local women who recognised a need for improved end of life care for residents of Derwentside, County Durham.
At Willow Burn our aim is to relieve pain and suffering for individuals with terminal or life-limiting illness, and their families and carers through the provision of free palliative care. To achieve this, we offer pain and symptom control, end of life care, crisis respite care, day services, complementary therapies and services to support families and carers.
At a time when peace and tranquillity is needed the most, Willow Burn Hospice provides a safe and quiet haven. The focus is on the individual and their needs through the provision of high-quality community-based care.
"Only a poet could write the words to properly describe how utterly grateful myself and my family are for the help, care, respect and love you showed my mum. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you."
There is no denying that hospices are places where people come at the end of their lives. But we do so much more than that... Our hospice is also a much-loved community hub where people meet in our café and gardens for friendship and support at a time when they need it the most.
