Kirkby Community Centre is a sports and social organisation for the benefit of the residents of Kirkby-in-Furness. There are facilities for football, cricket, bowls and tennis. There is a children's playground and a building with changing rooms, showers a meeting room and a kitchen. Kirkby Community Centre is situated on a playing field at Beckside and has been a registered charity since 1950. A Gala is held annually in July, with fell races, stalls, sideshows and children's entertainment.
The Community Centre is run by a committee which represents all the sports clubs and we now want to build an indoor sports and training facility to be used by teams and individuals. Burlington and Broughton primary schools also want to use the sports hall, and we will welcome users from the surrounding area. The Unity lottery will contribute to the Development Fund, which is used to improve the facilities for all users. The current focus of development is the sports hall, and we are holding other fundraising events and applying for various grants.
Please HELP us to provide opportunities to improve the health and fitness of everyone in Kirkby, especially the older and younger generations who need local and easily accessible activities.
