Having a learning disability affects the way a person learns, understands information and communicates. This can leave some people facing discrimination, exclusion and even abuse, leading to low self esteem, loneliness and at risk of being in poverty. Our charity believes that people with learning disabilities should be given the same chances as everyone else to live the life they choose, to be more independent and to be valued.
We support people by providing a family home, care to meet their individual needs and, through accredited training, provide an opportunity to increase practical skills, develop communication and social skills and grow in confidence and self esteem. Our inspirational care and training services provide the space, time and flexibility to empower people to reach their full potential.
Much of our training is delivered through social enterprises, raising funds to support our work, and involving the wider community helping to break down barriers and foster a greater understanding of disability. Our training includes agriculture and animal welfare at our farm - the Rare Breeds Centre (which is a farm based visitor centre), arts and crafts, catering and retail, IT training, conservation at Poulton and horticulture in Rainbow Nursery.
